From a kid’s first checkup to braces for teens, we treat young people of every age.
- Dental Checkups
Regular dental checkups, including cleaning and exams, are just as important for children as they are for adults.
Children should visit the dentist every six months to help prevent problems, and to catch and treat those that are already developing.
During each appointment, the dentist or hygienist will review proper oral hygiene techniques with your child, to ensure that each tooth is getting a proper cleaning at home.
- Monitoring Baby Teeth
Primary (baby) teeth are essential for children's healthy oral development, and for the health of the whole body.
Visiting the dentist on a regular basis when your child is young will help preserve the baby teeth until they are ready to fall out and be replaced by the adult teeth.
- Fluoride Treatment
Fluoride is a natural mineral that helps prevent tooth decay. At Assiniboine Dental Group, we provide fluoride treatment for children during dental checkups to help keep their teeth strong and resistant to decay.
- Dental Fillings
Despite best efforts to ensure good dental hygiene, sometimes kids end up with cavities.
Cavity care for children is very similar to cavity care for adults, because preserving tooth health is the most important aspect.
To preserve your child’s oral health, your dentist will remove the decayed material from the baby teeth and repair it with a dental filling.
- Dental Sealants
Dental sealants are coatings that are applied to the molars and premolars to help protect them from developing cavities.
Molars and premolars often have deep fissures in them that are difficult for children to clean with regular brushing.
Sealants help seal off these fissures of that bacteria and plaque cannot build up inside them.
- Early Orthodontic Treatment
At every appointment your child attends, the dentist will monitor their growing smile for any sign of developing misalignments.
If a problem is caught early, orthodontic treatment can prevent it from getting worse.
As a result, more invasive orthodontic treatment when your child is older may not be required.

Meet Dr. Tom Dobbs
Dr. Dobbs received his dental degree from the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry. He practiced general dentistry for 2 1/2 years before completing his specialty training in Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Manitoba and the Children’s Hospital of Winnipeg.
He has served on various committees of the Manitoba Dental Association( MDA) and was president of the MDA in 1994.
Dr. Dobbs is a Specialist member of the Canadian Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and member of the Winnipeg Dental Society. He is a Fellow of the International College of Dentist and the Pierre Fauchard Academy.
Dr. Dobbs enjoys part time teaching at the Faculty of Dentistry, amateur theater and hiking.
