At Assiniboine Dental Group in St. James Winnipeg, we offer treatment for sleep apnea and snoring to help you get the restorative sleep you need.
What is Sleep Apnea?
Sleep apnea is characterized by shallow breathing or abnormal breathing pauses (or apneas) during sleep caused by a physical blockage to airflow and/or a lack of respiratory effort. When the flow of oxygen stops, the brain is forced to awaken to consciously resume breathing which prevents you from falling into the restorative sleep you need to recharge your brain and body.
Continuous Positive Airway Pressure Device
Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) is the standard treatment for moderate to severe cases of sleep apnea.
CPAP provides a steady stream of pressurized air to patients through a mask that they wear during sleep. This airflow keeps the airway open, preventing pauses in breathing and restoring normal oxygen levels.
Oral Appliance Therapy
Oral appliance therapy allows for better air exchange at night while you sleep.
Oral appliances work by positioning your jaw further forward to pull your tongue away from the throat and the soft palate, opening your airway. For many, it can eliminate or reduce snoring during sleep.
Sleep & Airway Technology
At Assiniboine Dental Group, we have the latest Cone Beam Cat Scan (CBCT) technology to analyze your airway. Combined with our take home sleep test, we can prescribe and fabricate you an oral appliance to ensure you are getting the maximum amount of oxygen at night.
