The 7 Best Sugar-Free Work Snacks

The 7 Best Sugar-Free Work Snacks

Sugar is one of our teeth’s biggest offenders. It would be nice to cut sugar out of our diets altogether, but it’s difficult to find foods that don’t contain natural or artificial sugars. It also just tastes great, and we won’t fault you for snacking to fill those cravings, but most of those snack foods contain outrageous amounts of sugar.

Most. Not all. There are plenty of snacks that taste great and don’t contain any sugar at all. If you’re sitting in that not-quite-lunch/not-quite-dinner phase at work, try any of the following sugar-free delights. Your teeth will remain as beautiful and strong as they’ve ever been.

  1. Roasted Nuts and Seeds

Most granola bars aren’t that healthy. You can blame that on the sugar content.

Luckily, you can replace them with roasted nuts and seeds that don’t contain any sugar. Try putting together your own tasty trail mix, and you’ll be good to go for the rest of the day. Not only will it be sugar free, but it’ll also be incredibly filling.

Avoid including things like raisins and chocolate chips, but other than that, this snack should hold you over for the rest of the day and keep your teeth happy.

  1. Roasted Chickpeas

Roasted chickpeas can be a great replacement for unhealthy snacks like chips and popcorn. You can buy them ready-made at your local grocery store or cook them up yourself. Just toss a bunch on a pan and throw them in the oven for a few minutes. You can even sprinkle some sugar-free spices over top to flavour them to your liking.

  1. Hummus

On the subject of chickpeas, check out the real star of the show—hummus. Most dips like ketchup and ranch contain more sugar than you’d think, potentially contributing to poor dental health. Hummus is a great dip that’s also good for you.

  1. Carrots

To be clear, most vegetables are likely to be great for your dental health, but carrots are versatile. Eat them with the aforementioned hummus, or munch on one at your desk. The only thing you need to be mindful of is disturbing your coworkers with the noise. Either way, carrots taste great and they’re great for you.

  1. Cottage Cheese

Again, you’re probably in the clear of any sugar with most cheeses, but cottage cheese in particular is a great work snack. It’s definitely an acquired taste, but if you’re one of those people who love it, you should definitely consider packing some in your bag.

Cottage cheese doesn’t contain any sugar, and it has more health benefits than we can list. All you need to know is that it’s high in protein and it won’t harm your teeth.

  1. Plain Yogurt

The key lime Greek yogurt you’ve been bringing to work is more similar to a pudding cup than actual yogurt. Flavoured yogurts contain a whole bunch of sugar, so if you’re trying to avoid it, it’s best to stay away from anything but the plain variation.

The great thing about buying plain yogurt is that you can do whatever you want with it. Flavour it with anything sugar-free, mix it into your oatmeal, or use it to replace mayonnaise in homemade salad dressings and dips.

  1. Hard Boiled Eggs

Hard-boiled eggs are easy to prepare. Put a few in a pot of water on the stove before work and they’ll be ready by the time you’re ready to leave the house. They’re great if you’re looking for something to hold you over to the end of the day. They taste great and your teeth are going to love you for choosing them over that leftover slice of pie in your fridge.

There you have it, plenty of options and flavour alternatives to your classic, pre-packaged snack foods. They’re excellent for your teeth, and the rest of your body. Consider customizing them into something special you can share in your office!
